The Story

Jesus’ ministry started when he was 30 years old, and His first miracle was at a wedding. If you are not familiar with the story, John 2:1–11 outlines what took place. Jesus attended a wedding with His mother and disciples. Jesus’ mother came under stress after noticing they ran out of wine. She told Jesus, and he replied, “What does that have to do with me? My hour has not yet come”. (verse 4) Jesus knew that certain events would take place and that it was not time for him to start performing miracles, but He also did not ignore the request. Jesus held all power in His hands to fix the problem, and “this miraculous sign was the first time Jesus revealed His glory” (verse 11). Could you imagine Jesus performing a miracle at your wedding? In Jewish custom, it is tradition for the groom and his family to provide wine for the wedding festivities. The ultimate bridegroom providing for His bride, His church, is a similar picture we see performed at this wedding.

SWAC partners with Jesus

During wedding planning, most brides and grooms allocate a large portion of their budget to go towards wine and alcohol because of the guest experience they want to create. In this case, Mary knew the importance of what the wine symbolized and the power her son had to do something about the issue. Newly engaged couples look to their wedding planners to not only plan and manage their weddings but also to solve problems if they arise. As the Principal Wedding Planner at Sealed With A Covenant, LLC (SWAC), I have faith like Mary, and I look to Jesus to fill my weddings by helping to strategize and problem solve for all wedding planning and management needs. Every engaged and married couple, wedding event, and marriage connected to SWAC is prayed over and submitted to Jesus. Sealed With A Covenant is the vessel to get you down the altar, but it is Jesus who will sustain you in your marriage, and through Him you will never thirst for wine again. Your wedding and marriage will be more than enough because of the covenant you decided to make with Him.

The Jewish tradition of wine

In Jewish culture, wine is considered a holy drink by many people, and it is a traditional drink for celebratory occasions. Wine is closely tied to the Sabbath, which is the holy day for rest. Under the Jewish tradition of kiddish, a cup of wine is a “blessing expressing the sanctity of the Sabbath or of a festival.” I often wonder if this is the reason why most weddings are held on Saturdays, which is the day of the Sabbath. Marriage and the Sabbath are alike in two major ways. One, they both sanctify women and men. Two, they both incorporate wine into celebratory activities. The sanctity of the wedding day is a tradition that Sealed With A Covenant stands by, and it is also what sets us apart from other wedding planning companies. We partner with Jesus to incorporate unity rituals, like communion and feet washing, into your special day. Weddings and wine are two of a kind, and with careful consumption of wine, weddings are one of the best times you can have to celebrate your covenant union with your family and friends.
